Higher education in Bulgaria will become free

Higher education in Bulgaria will soon become free. The Council of Ministers has drafted a resolution to this effect. It was supported by Bulgaria's Minister of Finance, Asen Vasilev, Prime Minister, Nikolay Denkov, and Deputy Prime Minister, Maria Gabriel.

According to the document, all students who accept state contracts will be exempt from tuition fees. According to preliminary estimates, this measure will cost the state approximately 150 million leva per year.

The goal is to increase interest in higher education, and experts also believe that the fee reduction will have a beneficial effect on inflation. This is the next step after the state exempted some specialties from fees, made them protected, and managed to increase interest in them. Last academic year, 42,628 students studied under state tuition, writes Maritsa. After a steady decline in certain fields, the trend reversed in 2021, primarily due to increased interest in healthcare and IT specialties.

On the other hand, professions in mathematics, physics, and chemistry are growing both as a choice for students and as an opportunity to realize themselves in the labor market.
